A Slice of America!
Getting to grips with American life
as a Brit, can be tricky, & there's so much
still to learn, but here's a few thing worth noting, whether you're taking a trip here or looking for a home!
Coffee quanitities, don't really come in small medium or large but in ounces, an 8oz, (1 cup) 16oz (2 cups), or 24 oz, (3 cups) of coffee)...Not for the faint hearted!
Steering wheel is on the left drive on the right...!
The amount of times one of us has got in the wrong side of the car, and only released when the steering wheel wasn't there!
The weather is all or nothing. If it rains it's often a downpour, if you're lucky with a terrific, lighting on a hot summers day! When it snows, it can be quite heavy & minus temperatures, at times even colder than in the uk!!
Not all that bad though, especially if you ski, so i'm told, as local skiing is a popular winter sport here!
If you've ever had a dolls house or visited a model village, imagine living in a liveable sized version of one,
and that wouldn't be far off what the uk might think the average American house looks like!
Many have basements in often housing a washer and dryer and a boiler.
The appreciation of wild life, makes you
stop in the street, just take it in, so much so,
the locals probably wonder what your doing!
(I've been known to stop after being fascinated
by a passing white furry caterpillar!)
In autumn / 'the fall' attracts many tourists, as the colour of the leaves turn in the vastness of the Berkshires Mountains and Vermont is something special.
